Gil Velasquez Jr.

Charity Chairman, Dade County Association of Firefighter Charities, Inc. (DCAFC)

My name is Gil Velasquez Jr., and I’ve proudly served Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) for 20 years. For the past 8 years, I’ve held the bid as an Auxiliary Firefighter on Fireboat 21/B for the past 8 years. Prior to that, I dedicated over a decade to Battalion 12, spending most of that time on Engine 48, and began my career in Battalion 3. In addition to my operational role, I am honored to serve as the Charity Chairman of YOUR Local 1403 Firefighter Charities—officially known as the Dade County Association of Fire Fighter Charities (DCAFC). This nonprofit arm of Local 1403 is committed to supporting not only our firefighters and their families during times of hardship but also to giving back to the broader Miami-Dade County community.

Through a variety of events, ranging from toy drives, scholarship initiatives, and holiday food distributions, to our annual Casino Night & Poker Tournament, our mission is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve and protect. These events wouldn’t be possible without your contributions to Firefighter Charities and the dedication of volunteers, many of whom are active and retired firefighters, family members, cadets, and community partners.

Volunteering with firefighter charities isn’t just about giving time, it’s about standing together in service, building relationships, and reinforcing the core values of compassion, duty, and community.

Whether we’re raising funds for medical bills, supporting youth education, or helping families after disasters, our work proves that firefighters’ commitment to service doesn’t end at the firehouse door.

As Charity Chairman, my goal is to continue growing the reach and impact of DCAFC, expand our network of volunteers and partners, as well as strengthen our ability to respond with compassion when our community and our members are in need.

Gil Velasquez, Jr.
